CACODEMON An evil spirit or demon.

CALL In a card-guessing or ESP test, this is the subjects response.

CAOINEAG An evil unseen elemental from Celtic mythology that is associated with water. A caoineag is said to wail during the night near a cascade or waterfall as an omen of death, devastation and great sadness. (see banshee)

CARD GUESSING When subjects guess the identity of cards, as in a test for ESP.

CASE STUDY An in-depth investigation of an individual subject or event.

CHANNELING A form of communication between the living and the dead where an unseen spirit possesses a medium in order to impart guidance, and wisdom. The channeled spirit may be a deceased loved one or supernatural entity, such as an angel or demon.

  1. A psychic reading that is given without previous knowledge of the sitter.

  2. A technique that allows fake mediums or readers to obtain previously unknown information about a sitter.

COLD SPOT Mysterious currents of cold air that materialize in haunted places. They are considered evidence of the presence of a spirit or spirits.

COLLECTIVE APPARITION The sighting of an apparition simultaneously by multiple people.

CONTROL A spirit that assists, speaks or acts through a medium during séances. 2. A procedure undertaken in order to ensure that an experiment is conducted in a controlled, standardized fashion.

CONTROL GROUP A group of people or subjects whose performance is compared to that of experimental subjects.

CRISIS APPARITION The recognizable appearance of the spirit of a loved one or friend to one who is facing a crisis, such as grave illness, injury, danger and death. Some experts believe this phenomenon to be the result of telepathic communication rather than the presence of a spirit. (see fetch)

CROSSROADS The intersection of two or more roads. Experts believe that they attract supernatural energy.

CORPOREAL The physical, material body of a living being.

CROWD DEMONS Demonic apparitions that mysteriously appear in photographs; the subject(s) is/are unaware of the intrusion.

CRYPTOZOOLOGY The search for evidence of mythical animals and creatures such as a Sasquatch or dragon.

CRYSTAL BALL An orb made of crystal or glass that is believed to aid a clairvoyant in the divination process. Also known as a shew stone.

CRYSTALLOMANCY The technique of scrying with crystals; crystal gazing.

CURUPIRA A mythological demonic creature of Brazilian folklore that resembles a small man with fiery red hair. They are said to live in the forest and to use backwards feet to confuse travellers, greedy hunters and poachers, and high-pitched whistles to scare and drive victims mad.
